So Ive run into what I think is a slight issue with my BMW bottlecap wheels that Im trying to put on my MR2. The E30s that bottlecaps came on used a lug bolt whereas the MR2 has studs and uses lug nuts. Now I know that you're not supposed to use certain lug nuts with certain wheels but Im getting a bit lost with the transition.
As I understand it I need a lug nut that has the right seat (cone) for the wheels but also the right pitch for the MR2s studs (12x1.5). Is this even remotely right? Also, the center hub for the MR2 is 54.1mm and the E30 that the wheels came off of was 57.1mm, am I going to need hubcentric rings (if they even make them for a 3mm difference) or will the concical seat lugs make that a non-issue. Thanks!

spigot rings for 57.1 down to 54.1mm are freely available in the UK so you should be able to get them in US. it's better the have them than not have them considering how cheap they are. got a set of the right nuts and you are ready to go.

Right, how the hell do I figure out what the right nuts are? Thats where Im lost. Ive only ever owned and worked on BMWs prior to owning the MR2 and they all have lug bolts so this is a whole new world to me.

The OEM lugs for the MR2 didn't fit on my other wheels either. Luckily, my wheels came with some, but I didn't have any luck getting them at autozone or anything.

I havent even tried putting them on yet, Im just trying to figure out what dimensions the right nuts should be

If you can find a hubcentric ring, use it. But I think finding the right lug nut cone pitch will be the hard part. I wouldn't rely on just the lugs keeping the wheel centered.

a cursory google tells me E30 wheels have a 60 degree taper and are also M12. So, in theory any M12x1.5 nuts with a 60 deg taper will fit, if you catch my drift. looks like a common size, if your existing nuts are 60 deg you should be ok as long as the nuts tighten up properly.

So something like this should work?

if you can confirm 100% that the bottle tops are 60deg and that there will not be too much thread sticking out with the new wheels on then those will do the job.

Can you explain too much thread sticking out?

it's kind of difficult. if the distance from the rear face of the wheel (side facing the brakes) and the tapered seat is smaller with the e30 wheels than with the MR2 wheels you would then have more threads showing on the stud, thus meaning that you would need to wind the nuts down more to tighten the wheel. this may be an issue if like the nuts you posted don't have open ends.

Also, From the Amazon ad.
NOTE : If your wheel studs stick out past your wheel more than 30mm (a little less than 1.25"), our closed ended lug nuts will not work for you

May as well try it. You should be able to feel it if it's not seating correctly, or at least I did when I tried putting my originals back on.

Got it, thanks!

God Speed! I hope it works man. I gotta go to bed, so if you need anything else I will get back to you in the AM if no one else does, because right now it's tomorrow in the UK.
PS. I went German (wheel bolts) to Japanese (nuts)
